SCHOLARSHIPS

The Billabong High International School Scholarships are introduced to encourage students to strive for excellence in both academic and in character. As our school philosophy insists very much on developing the whole child, our aim is to direct the child and the parent in achieving the maximum benefit of the education provided at Billabong High. More over to provide Maldivian students with high caliber, the opportunity for an education that would develop them to their full potential in achieving their dreams.

Scholarship Amount

 

We provide fifteen scholarships annually to students of grade 6 to 12 which covers the tuition fees (70% of the monthly fee) of the students for one full academic year.

The fifteen Scholarships offered will be allocated to students of secondary level (grade 6 to 12). Now our scholarships are open for Academic and Sports excellence.

Academic Scholarship

Grade 6 to 10: 5 Scholarships (one for each grade level)

For A Levels : 7 Scholarships

All the Maldivian students who meet all of the following criteria are eligible to apply.

Awarding Criteria

The applicants' academic performance and character will be strictly scrutinised based on the application and attested documents presented along with the application. Academic performance and character will be equally weighed in calculating the final score of the student (Academic = 70%, Co-curricular activities -30%).

Recommendation letters will used as a qualitative measure to select the student for scholarship. A strong recommendation letter will greatly improve the chances of the student being selected for the scholarship.

The student should have,
  • Passed with C grades in at least 6 subjects at IGCSE with not less than 3A passes for A Level Scholarships.

  • Attain a minimum of 75% marks in the final aggregate average of the last year and a minimum of 60% marks in all the subjects studied for scholarships at grade 10

  • Attain a minimum of 80% marks in the final aggregate average of the last year and a minimum of 60% marks in all the subjects studied for scholarships at grade 7 to 9

  • Attain a minimum of 85% marks in the final aggregate average of the last year and a minimum of 60% marks in all the subjects studied at grade 5 for scholarships at grade 6

  • Demonstrated excellence in co-curricular activities.

  • Demonstrated him/herself as an excellent character

Application Process

The school would announce for the interested candidates to send in applications in January/February. Then the applications will be processed by the Scholarship Committee to finalise the candidates with the highest score based on the Awarding Criteria.

The students will have to submit the following documents:

Applicants for Academic Scholarships
  • Copies of academic results that would verify your qualification for application (IGCSE/O Level Results, previous year’s academic results, report cards etc. Provide original for verification)

  • A copy of the National ID card

  • Duly filled in application form (incomplete forms will be rejected)

  • Statement of purpose (250 – 300 words)

  • Separate letters of recommendation from two faculty members where the student has studied during the previous year

Sports

Scholarship

Open for students of Grade 6 to 10 who are extremely good at anyone of the following individual sports:

  • Badminton

  • Table Tennis

  • Swimming

  • Athletics

 

For Sports: 3 scholarships

 

All the Maldivian students who meet all of the following criteria are eligible to apply.

Awarding Criteria
The student should have,
  • Attain a minimum of 50% marks in the final aggregate average of the last year and a minimum of 50% marks in all the subjects studied during the previous year.

  • Demonstrated excellence in one of the sports mentioned above.

  • Demonstrated him/herself as an excellent character

Application Process

The school would announce for the interested candidates to send in applications in January/February. Applications will be processed by the Scholarship Committee to finalise the candidates with the highest score based on the Awarding Criteria.

The students will have to submit the following documents:

  • Copies of academic results and sports achievement  that would verify your qualification for application (previous year’s academic results, report cards, achievement in sports etc. Provide original for verification)

  • A copy of the National ID card

  • Duly filled in application form (incomplete forms will be rejected)

  • Statement of purpose (250 – 300 words)

  • Separate letter of recommendation from association/coach under which the applicant is trained at that particular sport.
