ASSESSMENTS

Going beyond assessment of simple acquisition of knowledge, Billabong High  assesses students’ mastery of subject matter and their ability to apply knowledge in the various domains.
Assessment for Grades 1 to 5

We complete one volume of work every half term at which point students will do practical and written assessments. We do not conduct term tests.

Subject Skill Areas are graded as follows:

ES = Excels at the skill;

AS = Accomplishes the skill;

DS = Developing the skill;

NS= Needs support and

(-) = Skill not introduced/assessed in the term

Guide to Assessment Skills:

A+ (90 – 100); A (80 – 89); B+ (70 – 79); B (60 – 69); C+ (50 – 59); C (40 – 49); U (<40)

Assessment for Grades 6 to 8

In line with KKEL guidelines, we give more weight to the Comprehensive Continuous Assessments (CCA) than Summative Assessments (SA). The ratio between CCA and SA is 2:1. We conduct all CCA through Review Papers (unit tests/class tests), Graded Assignments and Projects, while SA includes all term exams conducted at the end of each term. Students will do Review Papers (unit tests/class tests) after the completion of every unit. Our objective of conducting reviews after each unit is to ensure that there is continuous evaluation of student learning. We calculate Final Aggregate for the year by taking the following percentages from CCA and SA:

Comprehensive Continuous Assessments (CCA) - 67%
Summative Assessments (Exam) - 33%
Final Aggregate = 50% of First Term + 50% of Second Term

Assessment for Grades 9 & 10

More emphasis is given to Summative Assessments (SA) at this level to keep our assessments in line with IGCSE standards. However, we do conduct Comprehensive Continuous Assessments (CCA) alongside SA. We conduct CCA at the end of each unit through Review Papers (unit /class tests), Graded Assignments and Projects, while SA includes all term exams conducted at the end of each term. We calculate Final Aggregate for the year by taking the following percentages from CCA and SA:

Grade 9 (Term 1 & Term 2)

Comprehensive Continuous Assessments (CCA) - 30%
Summative Assessments (Exam) - 70%
Final Aggregate = 40% of First Term + 60% of Second Term

Grade 10 (Term 1)

Comprehensive Continuous Assessments (CCA) - 20%
Summative Assessments (Exam) - 80%
Final Aggregate = 50% of First Term + 50% of Second Term

Grade 10 (Term 2)

Summative Assessments (Exam) - 100%
Grade 10 (Final Aggregate)
Final Aggregate = 40% of First Term + 60% of Second Term

Reports

At Billabong High, we compile reports at midterm and at the end of each term. This report informs parents on children’s personal, social and study skills.

Subject Skill Areas are graded as follows:

ES = Excels at the skill;

AS = Accomplishes the skill;

DS = Developing the skill;

NS= Needs support and

(-) = Skill not introduced/assessed in the term

Guide to Assessment Skills:

A* (90 – 100); A (80 – 89); B (70 – 79); C (60 – 69); D (50 – 59); E (40 – 49); U (<40)

Parent-Teacher Interaction Meetings

We conduct regular Parent Teacher interaction meetings. In addition to these parent teacher interaction meetings, we are always happy to accommodate parents to discuss their child’s performance, on request.
