INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS

Participation and achievement highlights from 2017

Participating students in the FIRST LEGO League challenge are required to research a real-world problem (such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc.) and are challenged to develop a solution. Students must design; build and program a robot using LEGO Mindstorms technology, then compete on a tabletop playing field. For the challenge, the students learn to apply science, technology, engineering, arts and math concepts (STEAM) to solve a problem. The FIRST LEGO League was founded back in 1999 and has been held annually ever since.

 

Billabong High International School is the only authorized school that provides LEGO Education as a timetabled hands-on activity from primary to middle school in the Maldives.

Billabong High won the "Core Values Award" at the FIRST LEGO League challenge held in Singapore from the 3rd to 4th March 2017.

The History Bee and Bowl are two history quiz competitions in English which are held around the world. The Bee is for individual students; the Bowl is for teams.

Our participants in the International History Bee & Bowl Asian Championship for qualifying to the International History Olympiad to be held in Berlin, Germany. Billabong High competed against 52 schools from all over Asia in the International History Bee & Bowl Asian Championship held in Singapore from 16th to 18th June 2017.

The World Scholar's Cup is an international team academic program with students participating from over 50 countries. The World Scholar's Cup has attracted what it calls "a global community of future scholars and leaders", and promotes that it allows participants to "discover strengths and skills you never knew you had."

Our teams in the World Scholar's Cup Global Round won a total of 64 medals - 24 Gold medals & 40 Silver medals. Four of our teams qualified for the World Scholar's Cup Tournament of Champions to be held at Yale University, United States.

A total of 27 students composing of 9 teams from Billabong High International School participated with over 4,000 students from 40 different countries in the World Scholar's Cup Global Round held in Hanoi, Vietnam from June 26th to July 1st 2017.
